On Thursday, September 12th, the Emerging Media Lab hosted its annual Summer Showcase. Hosted by our Lab Coordinator, Sloane Madden, this event welcomed UBC faculty, staff, and community members into the world of emerging technologies. Featuring a panel discussion from EML’s PIs, presentations from our project teams, and a live demo session, teams where able to explain the objectives of their projects and the process of bringing these programs to life.
You can find the full list of projects, as well as links to their project pages, below.
OCELIA: OCELIA is an online chatbot that aims to address student passivity in regards to class readings. By acting as a tutor, the interface promotes deep engagement and critical thought, allowing students to draw links between readings and course content, and improving the in-class discussions.
Head Spin: A research study that aims to use VR to examine how disturbances impact how humans perceive and experience orientation in a three-dimensional environment.
Procedural Poetry Funhouse: A project that aims to use AI and VR to reimagine poetry as a physical space, using the philosophy of play-based learning to further student understanding of poetry and the process behind it.
Congratulations to the EML Summer 2024 Cohort! We look forward to seeing how your projects will positively impact the landscape of UBC.
