Songwaves: Interactive Voices for a Storytelling XR Mural

Background

This is a collaborative project between the IM4 Lab and the Emerging Media Lab (EML) with a focus on spatial sound, soundscapes and sensors interaction for application in XR murals. This initiative provides hands-on technical learning for all participants, exploring sound as a powerful medium for storytelling and cultural expression. This project aims to explore the use of triggerable interactive devices and experiences that provide different ways of learning and thinking for the production of XR mural project. Interactivity includes spatial sound interaction, touch interaction and motion-based interaction.

Objective

This project aims to incorporate technology into an artistic production through an IM4 Lab workshop at the end of March. The target audience is not only Indigenous youth and Elders participating in the IM4 Lab workshop, but also the general public, including urban Indigenous communities, educators, and those interested in XR storytelling and cultural art. Through an exchange of traditional and digital art practices, participants will create a mural celebrating a harmonious future, guided by cultural teachings.
