Developing Emerging Technologies: VR Paintball Experience

Project Description

The VR Paintball Experience is a university hub space that spirit fully represents UBC in the virtual world. Our project captures the spirit of UBC – as we understand it – through several static and interactive components. The VR space contains: a thunderbird user model, several iconic UBC landmarks (the clock tower, UBC sign, Martha Piper fountain, the Reconciliation totem pole and Musqueam totem pole), and is styled as a floating island version of the rose gardens. This VR experience has an integrated paint function whereby players can color the floor, or UBC sign with various paintballs which are located in colored buckets placed around the environment. Upon contact with paintable elements, the paintball will leave a glossy splotch in the same color as the paintball that was thrown. Various animals are located around the virtual campus as well, which contribute to a user’s feelings of exploration. Our project operates as a framework upon which greater functionality can be built, whether that is a multiplayer game, or a showcase for various presentations. The project may be integrated within Kreis Immersive’s VR Theatre in the future.
