Development for WebVR Workshop

Ever heard of WebVR but was never sure what it was? Here’s your chance to learn about creating your own WebVR experiences!

The Emerging Media Lab presents the WebVR workshop – WebVR is an experimental JavaScript API that provides support for a range of virtual reality devices, such as Google Cardboard, Oculus Rift, or the HTC Vive in a web browser. In this workshop, you’ll be able to create an interactive tour of Beaty Biodiversity Museum, Vancouver’s natural history museum at UBC.

In the WebVR development workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Develop for WebVR
  • Add audio and photos in the experience
  • Add interactions with the 3d models
  • Add movements in the VR environment

When you come, please bring the following items:

  • A mouse for your laptop
  • Enthusiasm to learn!

Items to prepare for the workshop:

  • Install Firefox browser: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
  • Create GitHub Account: https://github.com/
  • Create Glitch Account using your GitHub account: https://glitch.com/

Glitch is an open-source platform makes it easy to share and collaborate on software projects. In particular, it allows one to start a new A-Frame project in one click by starting from a template, bypassing the need to set up a server. A-Frame is a WebVR framework that makes it possible to create online VR experiences that work for multiple headsets by using HTML and Javascript.
