To learn about the emerging technology and tools, and current projects at EML, sign up for our Immersive Learning Orientation.

Happening every last Wednesday of the month, participants will be able to learn about the available technology and the possibilities with the technology available.

Featured projects:

  • HoloBrain
  • HoloBrain is a mixed reality brain simulation to allow educators to teach the anatomy of the brain with a holographic model, using 3D reconstructions of basal ganglia nuclei which were obtained from MRI scans.

  • Fossa Finder
  • An educational tool to teach students the anatomy of a special space in the skull, Pterygopalatine fossa. Students will be able to dissect the skull, locate the space and where they lead to, and explore the inner space of the cavity. Collaboration of Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry.

  • Digital Glass
  • The Digital Glass project is aimed at re-designing the existing UBC Lightboard setup at UBC Studios to be ink-free and completely digitized. With a digitized pen, the Lightboard system will have reduced cleanup downtime and also allow for drawing tools to be implemented.

  • Main Mall Hustle
  • Interactive experience of the UBC Point Grey Campus for the prospective and first year students. Developed in Google Cardboard Viewer

  • Journey with Me
  • By using this app, you will travel on an AR journey from Syria to Vancouver while listening to their real stories. Experience some of the choices and lack of choices that define their ongoing journey. By gamifying this experience, users can participate in understanding the emotional journey Syrian refugees have endured.

  • Math World
  • Math World allows students to better visualize multivariable functions.

  • Pain Box
  • This project seeks to emulate and expand upon, in a virtual environment, the rubber hand phenomena, where a person feels as if their hand has been displaced by a rubber hand after positioning one arm below the rubber hand and the other next to it, behind a mirror.

  • Geography VR
  • Geography VR focuses on Stanley Park as virtual reality experience, with 3D spatial environment models, drone photogrammetry, and the Unity3D game engine – a fully interactive virtual space that allows students to learn about their surroundings from a different perspective.

  • Ancient City
  • Reconstruction of Late Bronze Age sites of Kalavasos-Ayios Dhimitrios and Maroni, located in adjacent river valleys in south-central Cyprus. Being developed in both virtual reality and augmented reality platforms.

  • Physics World
  • A virtual reality/ augmented reality educational physics game that helps users understand physics in a fun way.
